Health & Safety

Constructionline is the UK's register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction-related contractors and consultants. Owned and endorsed by the DTI, Constructionline is a contributor to the Rethinking Construction initiative.

They gather and assess pre-qualification information on behalf of public and private sector procurers and provide them with access to over 12,500 fully accredited suppliers free of charge.  In addition, they also help contractors and consultants by reducing the need for them to fill-in pre-qualification forms for every tender and provide them with access to over 1,500 buyers.

Over the years, local authority health and safety and procurement professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive, have developed the Contractor Health and Safety assessment scheme (CHAS). The scheme is available for use by any public and private sector organizations to use when short listing contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies) who apply to work for them. It provides information about the health and safety part of their application.

Companies apply to join the scheme so everyone knows they meet acceptable standards of health and safety compliance. Clients from both the public and private sectors are users of the scheme and our database.

Safecontractor is an accreditation scheme that assesses the health & safety competency of contractors and service providers. Clients have a legal obligation to ensure that external contractors and service providers working on their premises operate in a safe way.

There is therefore a need to assess contractors health & safety arrangements and increasingly this is being carried out through Safecontractor. Many large organisations now use Safecontractor as their primary means of selecting contractors.

The Construction Health and Safety Group (CHSG) was formed in 1952 with a membership of 17 representatives from the major construction companies in the London area.

In 2002 it celebrated 50 years of remarkable achievement and sustained success in the field of accident prevention, having established itself as one of the premier safety groups and main providers of construction safety training in the country.

It has a reputation for the delivery of first class training, where customer care and efficient, effective service is a priority.
