European Intruder Alarm Standard
The British Standard for installation and maintenance of
new Intruder Alarm Systems has now been replaced. For some years
the industry has been preparing for the new European standard EN50131
but due to this standard conflicting with other British Standards
an “Enabling” document (PD6662) has been issued to force
the UK to comply. From 1st October 2005 all new intruder alarm systems
must be designed and installed to PD6662.
The new standard relies heavily on risk assessment of clients premises
and subsequent “Grading” of intruder alarm systems.
Therefore manufacturers now have to grade their equipment by both
environmental and security criteria and installers have to specify
the correct grade of system identified in their risk assessment.
The insurance industry has welcomed the new standard and
is specifying grades that are acceptable to them based on their
own criteria, but it is now the duty of the intruder alarm system
designer to carry out the risk assessment on the premises and select
the appropriate grade of system.
Swift recognised that it was crucial to our customers that our sales
and design staff were fully trained on the new standard and to this
end we have carried out intensive training forums for our staff
across the country.
The forums, delivered by our Regional Managing Director Andy
Carter
and our Group Quality Assurance Manager Phil Legerton have ensured
that our staff are confident in their knowledge of the standard
and our customers can be sure of our competence and professionalism. |
